浦項製鐵是建立全面夥伴關係與公共投資基金（PIF），沙特阿拉伯的主權財富基金，在許多領域，包括建築，汽車等行業。

POSCO to Accelerate Entry to Middle East Partnering with Saudi Arabia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund

POSCO is to forge a comprehensive partnership with Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, in many areas including the construction and automobile industries.
POSCO Chairman Kwon Oh-joon, who has been a member of an economic mission accompanying President Park Geun-hye on her trip to the four Middle Eastern countries, met with PIF Secretary General Abdulrahman Almofadhi and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 4.
Under the agreement, the PIF will invest more than US$1 billion (1.1 trillion won) into POSCO Engineering & Construction, which possess construction technologies for new cities, railways, and infrastructure. It will also consider establishing a joint venture with POSCO to proceed with joint projects in the social overhead capital (SOC) sector and automobiles.
The joint venture will work together to expand to the ICT and energy sectors in the future. In order to make it concrete, it will hold a periodic management committee and carry out detailed programs.
A POSCO representative said, “If the contract is closed in the first half of this year, POSCO can raise financial soundness and secure new growth power in the construction and auto sectors, succeeding in killing two birds with one stone. The efforts to improve the financial structure and to secure the new growth power, which Chairman Kwon Oh-joon has pursued since taking office, will pay off even at the global level.”
Chairman Kwon is also in talks with the PIF to buy a 40 percent stake of POSCO E&C and to push ahead with the Saudi Arabian national car production project. In the project, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund will invest about 1 trillion won (US$9.08 billion) to build an automobile assembly plant in Saudi Arabia with an annual capacity of 150,000 cars.
