Engineering, construction management company in Houston

Do you have a list of good regional engineering or construction companies (or local ~ regional oil companies)? Although I still have approximately a year away from possible graduation and I know the current economy situation is a mess, I prepare using my spare time to research the job market in Houston .

My goal is to find a company that is based in Houston downtown and usually has its business locally or at most regionally. I am more confident in handling intermediate project controls jobs but should have no problems doing entry level jobs re. civil or structural designs. The reason I want to find a local compnay rather than an internationally big corporation is becasue I may want to settle down in Houston.

Anyway, my approach would be researching the companies first, and then directly contact the one I am interested in. Of course, if you know any opportunity will open, please let me know. Thanks! (I do not need visa sponsorship)

恭喜你打算來休士頓定居,
這邊的房價便宜(平均17, 18萬吧), 華人又多, 食物跟油也便宜...應該是蠻好生活的.....
缺點包括 - 很無聊...很無聊....真的很無聊....

地區型的engineering 或 construction 公司, 這邊很多, 但是這種公司好或壞就很難知道了...
如果google一下或是到求職網站(e.g. monster.com) 搜尋一下, 應該會找到上千家以上吧!
但是既然你有超強的優勢 - 身份.... (羨慕說)
我想你應該是會有很多好機會的...

不過坦白說, 營管的PHD title或許在找工作的時候會嚇跑很多公司...大部分公司不常有合適的職缺...

小公司一般薪水不會高, 制度跟規模可能也不夠大...而大公司一般福利比較好....
另外, 休士頓的international construction companies也不見得要出差的...
出差與否一般在Job description上, 或是面試的時候都是會提到的...

小公司或許工作場所的變動更頻繁也說不定.....

以UT營管組同學這邊找工作跟工作最後歸屬的經驗, Oil and gas 的公司還是最吸引人的,
一位持綠卡的女同學(碩士)最後在Exxon mobile找到營管的工作, 海內外出差一年應該要四個月,
但是領到的錢也是最多85,000.
另外三個同學(碩士)分別在J Ray McDermott跟Shaw 做 schedule control或 cost control,
薪水是六萬二到六萬七...但是都不用出差...現在跟外地開會都用電話或視訊會議了說....

我想你可能慢慢蒐集資訊, 也可以物色一些公司研究一下....看看你的興趣到底是在哪一方面....

Speaking of feeling boredom in Houston, can you exactly give some examples? As I have family and our daily routine centers around kids, it seems bores should not be an issue to me...

I heard that Houston is extremely hot in the 100 days of summer. Plus that this area is susceptible to hurricans, so these two things seems to be the drawback to its advantage of low living cost. How do you see the hot weather in summer? Is it worse than Taiwan?

休士頓跟許多其他的城市比較起來,
可能也是因為是個外來移民比較多的地方,
感覺真的是比較沒有文化, 或是說lfe style.
要找到一些比較有歷史味道, 或是保存的很好的老街基本上是沒有的....
如果去過紐奧良或是波士頓的話, 應該會發現很明顯的差別...

這邊由於地形完全是平原, 往北往西往南兩百公里都是平的,
所以這裡沒有什麼自然景觀可言,
雖然靠海有個海岸沉積的島Galvestin...
可是由於附近有許多煉油廠跟城市的汙染...
所以許多人都不敢去玩水....

這邊的商業化非常興盛, 辦公大樓應該是到達了state of art的程度,
所有人談的事情都是商業的事情,
而且這邊也是比較保守的區域,
居民的生活重心也都放在居家的部份!
路上也看不到許多特立獨行的人....
如果去過奧斯丁的人, 應該就會發現這邊的人真的是無趣很多,
沒有什麼藝術氣息....

一般生活的休閒上除了逛逛mall,
看看電影, 上上餐館,
就真的就是回家了!
往外跑的話如果你是喜歡釣魚的人, 那或許還有一些事做...

休士頓比較有趣的地方還是Rice university附近,
那裏應該算是休士頓的綠洲了,
有許多的美術館, 小酒吧...
還有美麗的校園景觀和附近漂亮別緻的房舍.....

但是這裡擁擠的可怕的交通,
常常會破壞了到市區旅遊的興致.....

最後, 這個城市是沒有土地分區的,
商業區可以跟住宅區或是工業區混雜,
好生活但是真的不太美....跟台灣很像...

I think what I meant in the previous post is that in the future if you come across knowing some reputable companies (e.g. information from collegues, local news, magazines, clients) BASED IN HOUSTON, I would appreciate your remembering to post the info. here or PM me from time to time.

Since I have family, the job listing you posted is unsuitable for me. But it could be of intersets to some professionals back in Taiwan (esp. the single pro.)

I haven't check the details, but I think the company has a houston office.

Anyway, this is just a commercial advertisement sent to my mail box. I never heard about this company before.

I will keep you posted if some job opportunities coming out.
